I did a short reel on Instagram sharing what’s in my Bible Study bag, but 90 seconds doesn’t do it justice so let’s talk about what’s in my Bible study bag.
I keep all of my things together because it makes it easy to move from my desk in my office to my bed at night to the dining room table during the day. Having everything in one place helps me keep up with my journals (I keep my second journal in my office drawer and swap them out as needed).
When I was a student in school, college, and law school, I was organized and cared deeply about having my materials together. My study of scripture is far more important than any amount of schooling so I bring that same energy (if not more) to having myself prepared to study wherever I find myself.
The bag. I keep everything neatly tucked in this bag 97% of the time. I chose this bag because it’s easy to travel with, small enough to bring with me daily but large enough to hold most of my essentials. If I’m traveling overnight and want to take my iPad and Bible I will carry this bag.
The stickies. I use transparent stickies of all sizes for labeling and writing notes over portions of the Bible or over my notes. I will do a full post sharing more of my how, but, for example, if I am reviewing my notes and a new thought comes to me I will use a large square transparent sticky note to write my new thoughts and put it over the original thoughts so that they stay together. I use large and small circles, and a variety of other sizes to use as headers in my notes.
The pens. I tend to write with these pens most of the time. They are light weight and pretty and they don’t bleed through my pages either.
I use these and these pens for writing on the transparent sticky notes. The Mr. Pen comes with these stickies so it’s a great two for one!
I purchased my underlining pen/markers from a local stationary store if you want to try to find them in one of your local stores they are Fibralo Caran D’Ache 185 210. I use these for underlining when I am going back over my notes.
The books/journals. I am a big fan of blank page B5 journals. They are big enough for me to write and take notes and I just love the size after trying just about every size journal there is. For Bible notes and writing this is my size preference. This journal is comparable to brands that cost 2-3 times more. I purchased this one which has thicker pages but after using both I prefer the one with the less thick paper. I find that 160 is the sweet spot for GSM and those are harder to find with blank pages.
I recently purchased this side by side of the Gospels and enjoy using it when looking at how the different apostles wrote about the same event.
But this right here!
This is my most exciting purchase! I recently purchased the entire New Testament Bible journals they are scripture but every other page is blank for you to take notes. There are light lined dots which I plan to ignore because again I like writing on unlined paper. I plan to go through each book over time but right now I am reading Acts and Luke. I LOVE that I can digest the book while taking detailed notes throughout in a way that I can’t (and don’t want to) in my full Bible. You can purchase books individually or save and purchase the entire New Testament, Old Testament or the full Bible. These are ESV translation. I read mostly NKJV but found these journals to be better than the others I ordered to look through. I am beyond excited to deep dive into each book, one today at a time®!
That’s what’s in my bag! I’ve shared the links collectively here on my LTK and also here on Invitation to Abide directly. What’s in your Bible study bag? Share with us in the comments!
I have some of the bible journals. They make for really good presents too for people. Currently working through the Psalms one. I like to date when I write or draw in the book. So flicking back later I can remember what season of life I was in at that moment.
Also, can you do a video on how you use the transparent stickies?
