I’ve been thinking about what it means to be a follower of Jesus. A few words keep coming up as I review the scriptures, servant of the Lord, manager of his house, stewart. One who does his Lord’s will as the master when he is away, trying to do as the master would do. What an honor, but we have to know who our Lord is first to do his will. To put on the mind of Christ. Then we do not ask, “but where is the line,” “what is enough?”, “who is my neighbor?”. We give our whole heart, body, soul, and mind to the Lord. We abide in him, and He invigorates us with the nourishment of his life that lets us bear his fruit. To be lamps filled with his light. To be Christ bearers. To be daughters and heirs and fellow laborers in the field, because we can know his will and do it because we abide in Him.
I love this as a daily inclusion in prayer since we have to continue to be focused and centered on our identity. So many things around would seek to pull us off center and out of alignment. And part of it we don’t even realize or have a blind spot about…like the one with the one talent. He knew something about the Lord but was out of alignment in relationship. Not understanding self, the gift he had, and more lead to paralyzing fear and worse.
Yes! Being mindful and aware of who we are first and how that then pours into everything else we are/do. Becoming grounded in our identity as a disciple is imperative, it is a process, but one that requires our intention and attention daily.
