Have you ever lost something of great value and searched your house or car looking for it? You pick up cushions, you empty closets, you clean out the trunk, you look under seats, you are vigilant. We bring that same diligence and pursuit to searching the scriptures daily.
Searching the scriptures is different from a simple glance over scripture. When we search we look with hopes of finding something of great value and importance. There is diligence and a pursuit to find when searching scripture.
We don’t engage with God’s Word as something to check off of a “Christian checklist.” We want God’s Word to take root within us, speak to us, guide us, instruct us, and ultimately transform us.
Joshua 1:8 instructs us to meditate on holy scripture so that we may do all that is written in it; doing so is how we make our way prosperous and have good success. We are to meditate on God’s Word daily.
Faithful stewards prioritize and protect their time spent with God’s Word and disciples pursue God with their entire being–your heart, mind, soul, and strength. We don’t serve God out of routine or tradition, but out of a heart committed to pursuing Him with all diligence.
God is worthy of our consistency and He knows that in order to abide in Him, we must seek Him daily, through His holy scripture. When you seek God diligently, with all of your heart and soul, He promises that you will find Him and He will answer you. Many times we are praying for an answer God has already given us through scripture.
Be steadfast in your pursuit of instruction and wisdom in His Word.
Lesson 7: Our daily pursuit of God includes diligently searching and meditating on scripture. We must do both sincerely and wholeheartedly.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for your Word. Thank you for this time set aside and protected to read your Word and hide it in my heart. Help me to meditate on it throughout today. Help me to search the scriptures with gladness and then, to do what is written! Transform me to be exactly who you created me to be! I ask it all in your name, Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Scripture
Matthew 6:11 NKJV “Give us this day our daily bread.”
Hebrews 4:12 NKJV “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Acts 17:11 NKJV ”These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.“
Proverbs 8:17 NKJV ”I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.“
Jeremiah 29:13 NKJV ”And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.“
Deuteronomy 4:29 NKJV ”But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.“
Joshua 1:8 NKJV ”This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.“
Psalms 119:147-148 NKJV ”I rise before the dawning of the morning, And cry for help; I hope in Your word. My eyes are awake through the night watches, That I may meditate on Your word.“
Psalms 119:97 NKJV ”Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.“
Psalms 119: 11 NKJV ”Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.“
The beautiful thing is that more time abiding will change and transform what “success” looks like.
This one! I am encouraged that I will find Him and He will answer me, if I seek Him.
