Jesus tells us to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. God, through His Word, has made it clear that in order to be His disciple we must put and keep Him in His rightful place of first in our lives, in our schedules, and in our days.
The good news is that God has given us access to everything we need to keep Him first.
God has invited us to abide in Him. To abide means to remain, continue, stay, dwell, reside, make your home in, continue in relationship, take up residence, endure, sustain, act in accordance with, agree to, submit, and remain steadfast or faithful to.
Abiding in Jesus is a constant that inhabits and consumes the lifestyle of His disciples. Abiding is when Jesus is your life, not simply a part of your life.
In today’s world, keeping God first and abiding in Him can feel hard. This study provides you with scriptural guidance and practical steps that you can incorporate in your life one today at a time®.
Before we get to the daily steps, we will uncover foundational teaching and principles that prepare your heart and mind. I invite you to pull out paper and pen to write down the daily scriptures to review and, if possible, invite a friend or small group to work through the study with you.
This study will help you to understand why God is the number one priority in the life of His disciples and how He has given us practical guidance to implement spiritual habits that keep Him first. Together, we will uncover lessons gleaned from scripture on how to keep God as the number one priority in your life, in your schedule, and in your days.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for time spent studying your Word and what it says to me about keeping you first, being your disciple, and abiding in you. Let the truth of your Word drench my heart and mind today and throughout this study. Give me ears to hear from you and eyes to see beyond my human limitations. I ask it all in your name, Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
SCRIPTURE
Matthew 6:33 NKJV “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Luke 14:33 NKJV “So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.”
2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV ”All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
John 15:4-6 NKJV “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”
Colossians 3:1-4 NKJV “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”
